Now and then there surfaces a car that is claimed to be one of the official pace cars, I am not the one to decide/acknowledge these new cars. It is the Cadillac-LaSalle Club that publishes the authenticity manual for these cars and keeps track of the list of official replicas.

Dash plaque on the wrong side of the clock Some of these cars probably are fake, for instance this car I stumbled upon a number of years ago - note that is has the dash plaque on the wrong side of the clock (look at the image to the left). The dash plaque should be on the left side of the clock. Apparently this plaque was available a while as a spare part and could be bought...

[update] I have now seen two cars with the dash plaque on the right side of the clock, and the second car did indeed have a VIN # that matched one of the cars in the list of official replica's... So maybe there were cars that had the plaque on the right...

I have also seen examples where the special pace car stripes were painted on the car but these were plastic stripes on the real pace cars...

But some of these cars really seem to be authentic, I know of one car where the daughter of the original owner still has the car and that is supposed to be an official pace car replica, even the dealership that sold the car in the first place remembers it as an official pace car replica. I have even (once) encountered a car that was listed in the authenticity manual but did not have a dash plaque and the owner had no recollection of the car being one of the 566...

So, I am not the one to decide if a car is a true/official pace car replica or not - that is up to the American Cadillac-LaSalle Club but I will list cars that seem genuine.
